Method
Prepare the Dough
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
- In a separate bowl, combine diced mozzarella, halved cherry tomatoes, chopped basil, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper.
- Mix gently to combine and set aside.
Assemble the Bread
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle on a floured surface.
- Spread the Caprese filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other, pinching the seams to seal.
- Place the rolled dough into a greased loaf pan and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve
- Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
- Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally drizzled with more balsamic vinegar.
