Method
Prepare the Onions
- Cut the tops off the onions and hollow them out carefully, leaving the outer layers intact.
- Soak the hollowed onions in salted water for 15 minutes to soften.
Make the Filling
- In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat.
- Add ground beef and cook until browned, then add chopped tomato, cinnamon, turmeric, salt, and pepper.
- Stir in the rinsed rice and mix well.
- Add 1 cup of water, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until rice is partially cooked.
Stuff the Onions
- Carefully stuff each onion with the meat and rice mixture, pressing down gently.
Cook the Stuffed Onions
- Place the stuffed onions upright in a baking dish.
- Add remaining water to the dish and cover with foil.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes.
Garnish and Serve
- Remove from oven, garnish with chopped parsley and lemon slices.
- Serve warm with additional lemon on the side.
