Prepare the Onions
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft, about 10 minutes.
- Sprinkle brown sugar over the onions and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
Braised Brats
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a baking dish, place the bratwurst and pour the lager beer over them.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the brats to brown.
Serve
- Place the baked bratwurst in the buns and top with the caramelized onions.
- Serve immediately with your favorite condiments.
