Ingredients
  

Bratwurst and Onions
  • 4 links bratwurst preferably fresh
  • 2 medium onions sliced
  • 1 bottle lager beer or any light beer
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for cooking
  • 1 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar for caramelizing onions
  • 4 buns brat buns for serving

Method
 

Prepare the Onions
  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft, about 10 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle brown sugar over the onions and continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized, about 15 minutes.
Braised Brats
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a baking dish, place the bratwurst and pour the lager beer over them.
  3. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, allowing the brats to brown.
Serve
  1. Place the baked bratwurst in the buns and top with the caramelized onions.
  2. Serve immediately with your favorite condiments.

Notes
