Method
Prepare the Meat Sauce
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until softened.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Make the Cheese Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and salt. Mix well.
Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the cheese mixture and a third of the meat sauce.
- Repeat the layers, ending with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
Bake the Lasagna
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
