  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 0.5 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1.5 cups semisweet chocolate chips mix of regular and mini chips

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • medium bowl
  • Large bowl
  • Electric mixer
  • cookie cutter

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving 2-3 inches between each.
  8. Press additional chocolate chunks or sprinkles onto the tops of each cookie if desired.
  9. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn a very light golden brown.
  10. Immediately after removing from the oven, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut each warm cookie into a heart shape. Let the cut cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5-7 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
