Ingredients

  • 8 oz lo mein noodles
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup hot boiled water
  • 1 tbsp Beef Better Than Bouillon
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 lb beef thinly sliced into strips
  • 2 large carrots diced into two-inch pieces
  • 2 cups broccoli florets chopped into two-inch pieces
  • 1 large onion diced into two-inch pieces
  • 4 cloves garlic pressed or minced
  • Oil for frying

Equipment

  • Skillet

Method

  1. In a small bowl, combine hot boiled water, Beef Better Than Bouillon, and brown sugar. Stir well until dissolved. Add soy sauce and set aside.
  2. Dice the carrots, broccoli, and onion into two-inch pieces. Slice the beef into thin strips.
  3. Heat a skillet over high heat and add sesame oil. Cook beef strips until golden brown, about 3-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, sauté onions until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. Sauté carrots until they start to soften, about 4 minutes. Add broccoli and cook for an additional 3 minutes until crisp-tender. Return onions to the pan.
  6. Press garlic into the vegetable mixture and stir. Add the cooked beef back into the skillet.
  7. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and vegetables. Let it simmer for about 2 minutes.
  8. Add the cooked lo mein noodles and toss together thoroughly.
  9. Transfer to a large serving dish. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

This dish is incredibly versatile; feel free to swap out beef for chicken, shrimp, or tofu for a different protein punch. You can also add seasonal vegetables like bell peppers or snap peas for added crunch and color.
