Crockpot Swedish Meatballs with Creamy Gravy

Ingredients
  

Meatballs
  • 1 pound ground beef or a mix of beef and pork
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs preferably plain
  • 1/4 cup milk whole milk recommended
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth low sodium
  • 1 cup sour cream or heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch for thickening
  • 1 tablespoon water for cornstarch slurry
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley for garnish

Method
 

Prepare Meatballs
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
Cook Meatballs
  1. Place the meatballs in the crockpot.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and pour over the meatballs.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
Make Gravy
  1. Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the crockpot and set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry.
  3. Stir the cornstarch slurry into the broth in the crockpot and cook on high for 15 minutes until thickened.
  4. Stir in sour cream until smooth, then return meatballs to the crockpot and coat with gravy.
Serve
  1. Serve the meatballs over egg noodles or mashed potatoes, garnished with parsley.

Notes
