Ingredients
  

Buttercream Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Coffee Flavoring
  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee granules dissolved in 2 tablespoons of hot water
  • 1 tablespoon espresso powder optional for stronger flavor

Method
 

Prepare the Coffee Mixture
  1. Dissolve the instant coffee granules in hot water and set aside to cool.
  2. If using, mix the espresso powder with the coffee mixture.
Make the Buttercream
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed until combined.
  3. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, and continue to beat until smooth and fluffy.
  4. Slowly pour in the cooled coffee mixture while mixing, until fully incorporated.
Final Adjustments
  1. Taste the frosting and adjust the coffee flavor if desired by adding more dissolved coffee or espresso powder.
  2. Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to use.
