  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon chai spice blend or more to taste
  • 1/2 cup milk room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Chai Spice Blend
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

Prepare the Oven and Pan
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and chai spice blend.
Cream Butter and Sugar
  1. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Add Eggs and Vanilla
  1. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Combine Mixtures
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, and mix until just combined.
Bake the Cake
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool and Serve
  1. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
