  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 shallots (finely diced)
  • 2 jalapeños (finely diced)
  • 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 cup goat cheese (crumbled)
  • 1 large egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • Flaky sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Cut cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in shallots and jalapeños.
  5. In another bowl, mix buttermilk and honey; then add to the dry ingredients and stir gently.
  6. Fold in goat cheese without overmixing.
  7. Shape the dough into a rectangle about an inch thick and cut into triangles or rounds.
  8. Brush scones with an egg wash and sprinkle with flaky sea salt before baking for about 15 minutes until golden brown.
