  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large round loaf of crusty bread (sourdough recommended)
  • Optional: 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic, parsley, chives, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Make diagonal cuts across the top of the bread about 1 inch apart without cutting all the way through.
  4. Rotate the loaf and make another series of diagonal cuts to create crosshatch patterns.
  5. Spread the garlic butter mixture generously between each cut.
  6. If desired, sprinkle cheese between the cuts.
  7. Wrap the loaf in aluminum foil with the top slightly open.
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes until heated through.
